A cinque anni suona per la prima volta il vibrafono con un certo Lionel Hampton( i genitori,entrambi musicisti, suonano nella sua band),
diventerà uno dei più grandi interpreti dello strumento, inizia col jazz e sono subito grandi dischi. Per la Atlantic incide capolavori come :Virgo vibes, Stoned soul picnic, Daddy bug, dal 67 al 69. Poi inizia l’avventura Roy Ayer’s Ubiquity, a cui è riferita questa sintetica discografia consigliata.
