Nel 1972 finisce l'epopea con la Atlantic e , dopo il passaggio alla RCA Victor, esce Mr. Magic Man, 1973, da cui consiglio: I Keep Walking Straight Ahead e la title track. Stesso anno anche per: Miz Lena's boy, che contiene: Take A Closer Look At The Woman You're With, Soft Soul Boogie Woogie, You Lay'd It On Me. Il 1974 vede invece l'uscita di: Pickett in the Pocket, grande southern soul con i Memphis horns e la sezione ritmica Muscle Shoals Swanpers, brani consigliati: Iron it out, Don't Pass Me By e: Take Your Pleasure Where You Find It. Con Join Me And Let's Be Free del 1975, si chiude l'esperienza con la RCA, consiglio l'ascolto di: Let's Make Love Right e Mighty Mouth, per un album comunque deludente, cosa che non si può certo dire per il successivo: Chocolate Mountain, inciso per la sua label, la Wicked records nel 1976, da cui consiglio: I'm Gonna Do It All Over, Let Me Know, Love Will Keep Us Together, It's Gonna Be Good. Nel 1978 anche Pickett cede alle inflenze della Disco con: A Funky situation, inciso per la Big Tree, top tracks: Dance with me, She's So Tight e la title track. Sinceramente potremmo anche fermarci qui, giusto il tempo di citare due album per la EMI America, senza infamia e senza lode,cioè: I want you, del 1979 e: Right track del 1981.
