una delle funk band più prolifiche, con ben 22 album in un ventennio, esordio discografico nel 1968 come: Johnny King & the Fatback band, caratterizzati dalla batteria di Bill Curtis,che desiderava fondere il "fatback" beat jazz di New Orleans in una band funk, particolare che emerge fin da subito,nei primi due singoli 7": Peace, Love Not War / Put It In e nel 1971: Keep On Brother Keep On ( nella B side ancora: / Peace, Love Not War ), entrambi per la: BC Project II Records.
Il vero suono "Fatback" esplode con il primo album: Let's Do It Again, Perception records, 1972, che contiene: Goin' To See My Baby, Street Dance, Free Form e la title track.
Nel 1973 arriva l'apoteosi funk di: People music, sempre per la Perception, oltre alla monumentale: Njia Walk (Street Walk) citerei: Fatbackin', Kiba e:Soul march.
Il terzo album: The Fatback Band Featuring Brother, Johnny King-Feel My Soul ( Perception), ha sonorità più vicine al soul\jazz caro al chitarrista\compositore e vocalist Johnny King, groove meno graffiante ma presente in brani come: Why Is It So Hard To Do e: Sketches Of Life.
Sempre nel 74, inizia il periodo: Event, label distribuita dalla Polydor, che vede come prima uscita: Keep On Steppin', anche la grafica della copertina, con la bimba nera e vestitino bianco è diventata un must della scena funk.
Brani da consigliare? tutto l'album!!! ma dovendo sciegliere direi: Wicki Wacky, Mr. Bass Man, Stuff e il brano che titola l'album.
!975, escono ben due lp: Yum Yum e: Raising Hell, entrambi non possono mancare in una collezione Funky che si rispetti, dal primo, consiglio: Yum Yum (Gimme Some), Trompin', Let The Drums Speak e: Put The Funk On You, mentre dal secondo, a chiusura del periodo Event, le top tracks sono: (Are You Ready) Do The Bus Stop e: Spanish Hustle, regine delle dance hall, inoltre: Put Your Love (In My Tender Care) e: Party Time. 
L'ultimo album per la Event: Raising Hell, aveva raggiunto la vetta delle classifiche strizzando l'occhio al fenomeno emergente della Disco, con la firma per la Spring si prosegue su questa linea, ferma restando la leadership del batterista: Bill "Fatback" Curtis.
Il primo album per la nuova label è: Night fever, 1976, ancora hits da dance hall ma pesantemente pervase di funk, come: The Joint (You & Me), The Booty, No More Room For Dancing e la title track, sulle stesse frequenze anche l'album del 1977: NYCNYUSA (Nĭk-Nē-Yōō-Sä) con: Double Dutch, NYCNYUSA e: Soul finger, sempre nel 1977 esce anche: Man With The Band, con il nome della band accorciato semplicemente in: Fatback, ormai decisamente "disco oriented", top tracks: Master booty, Funk Backin' e gli oltre dieci minuti di: The Man With The Band.
1978, esce: Fired Up 'N' Kickin' , brani consigliati: I'm Fired Up, Get Out On The Dance Floor, I Like Girls e: Snake.
Nel 1979 escono ben due lp: Brite Lites, Big City e Fatback XII, dal primo vi segnalo: Freak The Freak The Funk (Rock), Let Me Do It To You e: Big City ( praticamente tutta la side A del disco, denominata: the joint), dal secondo: You're My Candy Sweet, Disco bass e: King Tim III (Personality Jock), che essendo uscito come singolo una settimana prima della Sugarhill Gang's con "Rapper's Delight", è considerato il primo singolo Hip Hop.
Due album anche nel 1980: Hot box e: 14 Karat, raccomando: Backstrokin', Love spell e la title track da: Hot box e: Let's Do It Again, Concrete jungle, Lady Groove, dal secondo.
Chiudiamo con il 1981, ancora due lp: Gigolo e Tasty jam, consiglio: Rockin' To The Beat e Gigolo dal primo, mentre da Tasty Jam direi: Take It Any Way You Want It e: Kool Whip.
