grande saxophonista ma anche pianista, vocalist e compositore in ambito jazz fin dall'inizio dei 60's, con una serie di album per la Vee Jay ( tra cui il mitico: Bossa Nova, 1963), prima della svolta soul\jazz-funk concomitante con la firma per la Atlantic e con l'inizio della sperimentazione del Varitone, un sistema di amplificazione per saxophono applicato al leggendario Selmer- Mark VI.
